Ground Work has Begun

If you've been out to the property lately you know that ground work is well underway. Here are the latest updates:

The front pond has been drained and filled.

The filled in pond will become the parking for the new building. The next step for this area is laying out the base for the paving of the parking lot.

Digging for the new retention pond has begun. This will still take several more weeks until completion.

Vortek Enterprises, Inc. has given an estimated completion date on the ground work for sometime in April.

Work that still needs to be completed not only includes the new retention pond but also the pad for the new building and driveway in the front of the property and along the west side of the property.

More Blessings

Vortek Enterprises had an opportunity to meet with the Florida Department of Transportation to discuss the front entrance to the church at State Road 44. They informed us that we would not have to do any further work to the driveway as previous thought. We are grateful to hear this news as it will save Crossroads an estimated $18,000 - $20,000.

As the work on the property continues the staff and leadership urge you to be careful while driving on property. Please drive only in designated areas and watch for construction equipment and vehicles. Please do not go near any active work area unless permitted and you have the proper safety gear. Thanks again for your cooperation and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Construction crews are making more and more progress each day and things are changing quickly. We try to take pictures at least once a day and upload them daily to our Picasa Photo Page. January 6, 2011 Update

Big News!!!
Crossroads received news this week that we can go ahead and begin ground work for the new building. In the next few weeks we will begin draining the front pond, digging the new retention pond and laying the ground work for the parking lot and new building. We will let you know as soon as that work begins.

Many Blessings
A local construction company has donated $4,500 worth of cement blocks to the church. These blocks will be needed for the stem wall on the new building. Votrek Enterprises, Inc (the organization doing the ground work for Crossroads) has donated the gas and man power to go pick up the blocks and bring them back here.

If you haven't noticed the construction for the new Wal Mart has begun down the road from the church. Halifax Paving Inc, out of Ormond Beach is doing the ground work for that project has donated around 10,000 yards of top soil to Crossroads. This soil will be good as we have to build up the land in the back and along the sides of the property. For the next few weeks large dump trucks will be bringing all this dirt in.

We continue to see God's vision unravel in front of us and we give Him all the praise and glory as we move forward.

As Christmas approaches many changes have taken place and there are several updates since the last time we posted.

Temporary Worship Center
Last Sunday not only marked the third week in a row we had a record attendance at Crossroads but it marked the first Sunday we had the opportunity to meet in our new temporary Worship Center located on property. After much prayer and consideration the staff and leadership decided it would be best to ease our way out of meeting at Samusla Academy and beginning meeting on Crossroads property. Many factors went into this decision and we believe that in the long run it is best.

The temporary worship center is actually a 40 x 80 foot tent. The floor is made up of brick pavers put in by Wayne Rathbun and several other volunteers at Crossroads. As we continue to adjust to our new move there are still several things we are working on inside the worship center including; concrete installed for flooring toward the back, hanging of the screen and projector to make for more space on stage and installing a sound/media booth in the back.

We praise the Lord for providing all of these things as everything above has been donated to Crossroads, including all the labor work by Wayne and his crew. This is all truly a blessing.

Crossroads Barn
The Crossroads Barn now has a concrete floor. It was put in at the beginning of November. Thanks to everyone that helped make this happen.

Building Project Update
We have finally received the final drawings back from the architect. Our general contractor has reviewed the plans and is currently making some small minor adjustments before we bring the plans to the county. The plans should be ready to bring to the county sometime this month. Once we do that we should have the okay to begin the ground work on the new building.

It's an exciting time to be a part of Crossroads. We thank you for your continued support and prayers.

July 25, 2010 Update

We move forward very slowly but at least it's forward. Upon the last submittable of property plans to Volusia county back in May - they instructed us that they would need finalized plans from the architect of the actual building itself.

Over the past six weeks we have continued to meet with the building architect, along with plumbing and electrical engineer in finalizing the plans for the building. While tedious at times, it's also exciting picking out paint colors, cabinets, flooring and everything that goes along with putting something like this together. We are also really excited that the new building will have many "green" features to it - including an energy saving air conditioner system, sinks and toilets that conserve water and much more that we'll let you know about as the project get's closer to completion.

Property Yard Work Days
The first and third Thursday's of each month have been designated yard work days out at the property. If you have some time come out and help us out with some lawn mowing, weed whacking and picking up of branches and other brush. Yard Work days begin at 8:30AM.

May 11, 2010 Update

18 months later and covered in prayer we are finally able to begin some major work on the property this week. Beginning yesterday, barricade fencing around several trees started being installed and today the silt fencing has begun to go in. Once all fencing has been installed it will be inspected by the county and we will be able to start digging out the retention pond. If you are coming out to the Ministry Center you are asked to park out by the outdoor stage - again the staff and leadership want to encourage you to be alert while navigating around the property. Please pray for the safety of the men and women who will be working on the property.

In other news around the property
- Last Friday a team of 10 men traveled down to Celebration to disassemble and pick up a donated playground. It was hot and humid but all the guys did an awesome job working hard on making this happen. The playground is now sitting on the Crossroads property ready to be put together. It will be assembled later on, once an area is cleared near the Ministry Center.

Do you remember when you first passed your drivers test and you went down to the Department of Motor Vehicles to pick up your license and then you got home grabbed the keys from your Mom and Dad, ran out to the car, started the engine and . . . halt? Your parents are standing there in the driveway giving you the lecture about how you better not crash the car and they continue on for 20 minutes about how you have this new awesome responsibility . . . well that's kind of where we are at with the county permits. We have the keys in hand but the car can't leave the driveway.

To clarify we still do not have the permits from Volusia County. But we do have the go ahead to put in the silt fencing around the property. The fencing is required by law to be installed at all construction sites in the county. It protects construction sites and slopes from soil loss and erosion and is put up around things such as trees and shrubs. Beginning this week you will begin to see some of this fencing go in. Once the fencing is installed it has to be inspected and approved by the county. Once this happens then we should be able to go ahead and get the permit needed to begin the construction of the building pad.

The staff and leadership at Crossroads encourage everyone driving in and around the property to take extra precaution. Please watch out for heavy construction equipment. The driveways and parking areas may change from day to day but they will be clearly marked. For your safety please stay within the marked areas.

April 22, 2010 Update

I know this seems like a reoccurring theme for us but we do apologize for not updating in a couple of months. There is good reason for it though as you'll read below.

On the last update we did mention that we have indeed received all permits needed to begin digging from the St. Johns Water Management, Florida Department of Transportation and the federal government. The only one left that we need is the county permit. We only have one more obstacle to tackle with the county and that's with the environmental portion of it - all other areas of the county have approved the plans. Everything with the environmental portion of the plans as been revised and our site engineer has resubmitted the plans to the county. We should hear back from them in the next couple of weeks.

Once we get final approval from the county we will immedietly set up the silt fencing required by law on all construction projects. Once the fencing is inspected and approved digging for the new building pad, digging for the retention pond, filling in the retention pond up front and laying out of the new parking lot will begin. Simultaneously we will begin the process of getting the actual building permit and getting the new building shipped to the Crossroads property.

In other news around the property:
- A general contractor out of Orlando has donated a full playground to the church. The playground is currently set up in Celebration, Florida. The playground needs to be taken out to make room for more housing in the area. In the next couple of weeks a team from Crossroads will head over there to pick it up. This is an absolute blessing!!! Below are some pictures of the playground taken at the Celebration location (It poured down rain the night before these were taken)

- The inside of the Crossroads Barn is looking awesome these days. It is now occupied by our youth group and puppet team. It is fully equipped with couches, lighting, sounds system, ping pong table, air hockey and more. The walls are even decorated with paintings the students painted themselves. We pray that it will be a place for students to draw closer to Jesus Christ and further grow their relationship with Him in the years to come. If you have a chance, stop by and check it out.

That's the news on the property and new building for now. Please continue to keep this project in your prayers. We do this not because church is about a new building but to use these things as as tools for growing, equipping and teaching people about the most amazing message this world has ever seen or heard. It's all about Him!!!

February 16, 2010 Update

We have received final approval and all permits needed from St. John's Water Management to move ahead with the new building project. All final paper work and permits will be submitted to Volusia County tomorrow. Once approved we will be able to begin work on the building pad. We'll keep you updated.

February 3, 2010 Update

We're just waiting on the final approval from the St. John's Water Managment before we can submit all the final paper work to Volusia County. We should hear from them between now and Tuesday.

The youth group has a work day scheduled for this Saturday, February 6th beginning at 9:00AM out at the Crossroads Barn. Everyone is invited out to join us as we work on cleaning and decorating it and getting it ready for weekly youth gatherings.

November 24, 2009 Update

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11

As we draw closer and closer to begin digging dirt we are encouraged by this scripture in Jeremiah and as we are more anxious than ever to begin the bulk of the work around here God often reminds us that it's on His timing and not on our own. Over the past two months we've had to over come several obstacles in making sure everything on the property is in compliance with Volusia County.

Here are the latest updates:

- The final site plans with all the proper corrections were submitted to the county on Thursday, November 19th. We are waiting on final approval to begin construction and should hear back from them sometime next week.

- We have received permits from the Florida Department of Transportation and the St. Johns Water Management to begin work on the property.

- All work is complete on the Flag Pole and lighting in the front of the property. The flags have been purchased and the lighting has been installed.

- Fencing has been installed along the property line of the church and the paintball fields.

As we move forward on building project please join us in praying for God's favor when it comes to dealing with county.

September 17, 2009 Update

As October get's closer so does our projected "breaking ground" date and as of right now everything is still on track. Here are the latest property & building updates:

- We have received word from St. John's Water Management (SJWM) that they have received all of our paper work requesting permission to dig a retention pond and fill in another pond toward the front of the property. As expected they requested some minor changes on the site plans. Currently Parker Mychenburg (site engineer) and our site surveyor are working hand in hand making these changes and the corrections should be submitted back to SJWM.

- Beginning this Saturday 1,000 cubic yards of silicit sand will begin being dropped off at the Crossroads property. Silicit sand is required to be used at the bottom of the filled in retetetion pond and at the bottom of the septic tank site. The silicate sand is unique because it absorbs and drains water in way that it does not hold in the moisture and does not become muddy. This should take approximately two weeks.

- Ministry Center Update - Painting and rearranging of of the Associate Minister's Office is complete. In the main meeting room we have installed a flat screen monitor that will display announcements for visitors and those attending Bible Study on Wednesday nights.

September 3, 2009 Update

Just a quick update . . .

- We received our permit from the Florida Environmental Protection Agency - this allows us to go ahead and put in the proper storm water drainage system once construction begins. The permit is good for August 2009 thru June 2014.

- Ministry Center - In the next couple of weeks we'll be doing some work on the inside of the building including a fresh coat of paint in the offices and main meeting room. A computer monitor will be installed in the main meeting room as well that will scroll announcements and relevant messages. We'll also be pressure washing the outside of the building as well.

- We're still waiting on the permit from St. John's Water Management to go ahead and begin digging the retention pond. The paper work was submitted to them back in April and we did expect to wait this long for approval. Once we get approval a date will be set to break ground.

August 20, 2009 Update

Hey Everyone,

As the summer draws to an end things around here are getting more exciting. We have several new updates:

- Vortek Enterprises has completed all the site clearing work they could possibly do at this time. They still have to fill in some low spots around the property but cannot do that as they do not have enough dirt to do so yet. They will be able to do this once we get final approval from St. Johns Water Management to go ahead and dig the retention pond. Vortek was also able to go ahead and put the flag pole up at the front of the property. In the next couple of weeks we'll be putting in lighting (to fly the flag at night) and ordering new flags.

- The land in the back has all been leveled and graded out and the soccer/football fields and the baseball diamond have all been marked out.

- The final site plans were submitted to the county on Thursday, July 30th. The leadership and staff at Crossroads had the opportunity to sit down with the county council review board to go over the plans. The county as approved the plans as long as some minor changes are made in 30 days or less which will not be a problem.

- The staff and leadership would encourage everyone to come out and see the property. Be sure to check out the plans on Sunday mornings at Samsula Academy, before and after service where you can talk to Mike Elliott and get any questions you may have answered as well.

After being struck by lightning and a new computer installed inside the sign it is finally back working again. The sign was installed by Morris Sign Company out of Deland and the electronic part of is from Vision Tech out of Springfield, Missouri. In the next few weeks we'll be landscaping around the sign and putting up a flag pole right near it.

We were not able to get our site plans submitted to the county as planned on Thursday, July 16th. However we are absolutely positive that the plans will be submitted next Thursday, July 30th.

- The companies and individuals that are working and will be working on the building project

- Our Standing at the Crossroads Capital Campaign Program

- Staff and Leadership can continue to make God's vision for Crossroads a reality

July 14, 2009 Update

Mike and Andy met with the architect (Kevin Schweizer from Schweizer & Waldroff Architect, Inc. out of New Smyrna Beach) today to put some final touches on the plans for the inside of the new building. They worked on incorporating a regulation size Junior High basketball court on the inside. The building will have many "green" aspects to it as well. Once we get a copy of the final plans we will be sure to have them available on Sunday mornings and on our "Standing at the Crossroads" section of the church web site.

July 8, 2009 Update

Before the slab for the new building can be put in there are several projects that must be completed on the property. Crossroads has hired Vortek Enterprises Inc. out of Deltona, Florida to complete all this work and includes; cleaning up all garbage left over from the past owners, digging of retention pond, bringing in dirt to raise the ground level, tree removal, grading of property to install baseball and soccer fields, filling in of old retention ponds and fence line installation.

If you've been out to the property in the past week you will have noticed that the initial work has begun. When on the property please be cautious as you move around and be aware of the heavy construction equipment.

The final site plan from our site engineer Parker Mynchenberg & Associates have been completed and will be submitted for approval by Volusia County on July 16th. The site plan can viewed on Sunday mornings at Samsula Academy before and after worship service. Mike Elliott will be on hand each week to answer any questions you may have.
